This book was a wonderful and much needed breakdown of the Bible in terms that were written for me. " now you all now about John?." I am always nodding and looking around but thinking, nope dont know em. I have studied theology but still am a little confused when I (occasionally) attend church and the preacher says. I grew up as a Christian but I cannot say that I understand the Bible. I have done tons and tons of different Bible Studies throughout my life. Great idea, Angie, and great solid study points, maybe just leave out the jokes next time! UGH!!! There’s so many more examples I could put here but I’d have to go back and look through. It’s just so misplaced and weird? I started striking through everything that wasn’t necessary in this book and it would have been half as long if she would have stopped trying to make everyone laugh (I didn’t) and be cutesy. If it was an ongoing thing during the book that she kept alluding to it would have been funny. I’m just trying to lighten the mood.” This was after VERY BRIEFLY discussing the Babylonians conquering the Southern Kingdom of Judah. One of the weird “jokes” is this: “One of my life theories? It’s always the Babylonians. Cover your drunk and naked dad and show him some respect.” There could have been a much better way to phrase that so it wasn’t so flippant and gross.

For example, when she talks about Noah: “Evidently, Noah got drunk and ended up naked in his tent (I’m reporting the facts here, people).well done, boys. The jokes also make the important, deep things seem less heartfelt. The misplaced (and sometimes highly inappropriate) jokes make little sense and/or do nothing to further the study or points. Angie Smith tries so hard to be cutesy and it doesn’t work for me. And a lot of the material was also awesome. Dive in and give this 7 weeks and I can almost guarantee you will be changed!! It's been right in line with the last two studies I've done (Sermon on the Mount and Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin) and I think it's a much needed resource for any Christian who wants to deepen their knowledge of The Almighty. I've been a Christian for 16 years (marked my re-birthday just this week!) and I took away many new things from this study that I had not previously known! I think anyone who feels like they'd like a more solid grip on the scriptures as one text (vs several books) that is cohesive would do well to go through this study. In my opinion this study is EXCELLENT and although I read about it being a beginners study, I do not think it's fair to pigeonhole it to just new believers. I just can't recommend this ENOUGH!! Over the past 7 weeks I've managed to go through the entire bible from Genesis to Revelation while studying the main themes and following the thread of the story of God from start to end.
